"But, just as important, Walitt has provided the validation that Ryan needed, she says. As part of a brain study using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), a friend of Ryan was invited to participate as a control subject. “He is really trying to see what’s happening,” she says, “and that’s really important to me. He could look at my scans and hers and see things are different. He could tell me he could see evidence of what I have been complaining about but is hard to have other people believe. I often wonder - am I making it all up? It is such an ambiguous problem – to have validation that may explain the way you feel is reassuring."
